University of California, Irvine Research Study: Music & Stress
🎵 Are you a professional musician who primarily improvises?
UCI researchers want to hear about your experiences with music, stress, and well-being.
The University of California, Irvine is conducting a research study exploring the relationship between music, everyday stress, and mental well-being among professional musicians.
We are especially looking for free improvisation musicians and other musicians who primarily perform improvisational music.
What’s involved?
Complete a brief online screening survey
If eligible, participate in one 20–30 minute phone interview
Share your experiences with music, performance, stress, and well-being
💵 Compensation: $10
Receive $10 by email for completing the phone interview. Payment is sent within 4–6 weeks.
You may qualify if you:
Are 18 or older
Live in the United States
Are a professional musician
Primarily perform improvisational or score-based music
Have at least 8 years of experience with your primary instrument or voice
Have averaged at least 6 hours/week of music activity over the past 3 months
Professional musician status is based on additional criteria, such as income from music, paid engagements, music being your primary occupation, professional organization membership, and/or other professional experience.
Not eligible if your primary musical activity is:
DJing, music production, or primarily manipulating pre-recorded tracks rather than creating music in real time
Sound bath or ambient performance without active real-time musical decision-making consistent with improvisational performance
