Role Description The Percussionist is a full-time, on-site role based in Apex, NC, focused on performing and rehearsing across a range of musical styles and settings. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing and practicing repertoire, participating in rehearsals, and performing at live events such as concerts, studio sessions, and private functions. The role involves maintaining percussion instruments, setting up and breaking down equipment, and coordinating with other musicians and organizers to ensure seamless performances. The Percussionist may also develop arrangements, contribute creative ideas to projects, and potentially provide individual or group instruction to learners. Professionalism, punctuality, and consistent musical quality are essential to sustaining and growing a self-employed practice.
Qualifications
Strong proficiency in a range of percussion instruments (e.g., drum set, hand percussion, orchestral percussion) and the ability to read and interpret music charts or notation.Experience performing in ensemble settings, bands, or studio sessions, with solid timing, dynamics, and stylistic versatility (e.g., jazz, rock, classical, world music).Ability to manage schedules, communicate clearly with clients and collaborators, and maintain a professional on-site presence in Apex, NC.Basic skills in self-promotion and networking, including the use of social media, demo recordings, or online platforms to attract and retain clients.Reliable transportation for instruments and equipment, and capability to set up, maintain, and safely transport percussion gear for rehearsals and performances.Previous performance experience, music education, or training (formal or informal) is highly beneficial; a portfolio of recordings or references is preferred.
