About The Music Note

The Music Note is one of the Pittsburgh region's premier private music schools, serving hundreds of students of all ages, from infants through adults. Our faculty is made up of highly qualified professional musicians and educators who are dedicated to providing exceptional music instruction in a welcoming and encouraging environment.

We offer private lessons in piano, voice, strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, harp, guitar, and more, as well as community ensembles including choir, handbells, harp ensemble, chamber groups, and music classes for young children. Our students regularly earn placements in honor ensembles, collegiate music programs, competitions, and professional performance opportunities.

Position Overview

The Music Note is seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and highly qualified Piano Instructor to join our growing faculty. This paid teaching position offers the opportunity to work with students ranging from beginner to advanced levels, including children, teens, and adults.

The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching, committed to musical excellence, and enjoys helping students achieve their individual goals in a positive and supportive learning environment. We are looking for someone who values professionalism, strong communication, and building lasting relationships with students and families.

Responsibilities

Provide engaging, individualized private piano instruction for students of varying ages and abilities.
Develop personalized lesson plans that support each student's musical goals and learning style.
Teach proper piano technique, music theory, ear training, sight-reading, rhythm, musicianship, and performance skills.
Maintain accurate lesson records and monitor student progress.
Prepare students for studio recitals, performances, auditions, competitions, and examinations as appropriate.
Foster a welcoming, encouraging, and motivating lesson environment.
Communicate professionally with parents and students regarding progress, goals, and practice expectations.
Collaborate with fellow faculty members and participate in studio events and performances.
Uphold The Music Note's standards of professionalism, excellence, and student-centered instruction.

Qualifications

Degree in Piano Performance, Music Education, Pedagogy, or a related music field is preferred. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
Previous experience teaching private piano lessons is preferred.
Strong piano performance skills with knowledge of multiple musical styles.
Solid understanding of music theory, technique, sight-reading, and effective pedagogical practices.
Ability to teach students from early childhood through adulthood.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills and reliability.
Ability to inspire confidence, creativity, and a love of music in students.
Pennsylvania background clearances (or the ability to obtain them) are required before employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with experience or additional training in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
