Seussical Accompanist - Westonka Community Theatre - Westonka Community Education and Services

Westonka Community Theatre (WCT) is a growing non-profit artistic production company based in the Westonka District and operates in collaboration with Westonka Community Education. The mission of WCT is to provide quality theater experiences for residents of all ages and abilities.

POSITION: Rehearsal Accompanist for  *Seussical the Musical*

REPORTS TO: Director and Vocal Director for  and WCT Executive Committee through the Board Chair

TIME: This is a project-based position for the duration of the production of *Seussical the Musical*. Production meetings start in December, rehearsals start June 7, 2027, rehearsals are Mondays through Thursdays 6-9 pm with extended time and days occasionally during tech.  Tech weekend July 16-18 show dates July 23 through August 1.  

COMPENSATION: $800 Stipend

The Accompanist is responsible for accompanying  all music rehearsals of the production process. The Accompanist collaborates with the Music Director, Vocal Director, and other Creative Staff  to ensure that the production is guided by the WCT mission and credo. The Accompanist must be cognizant of achieving WCT's goals for community engagement, artistic strength, financial stability, fundraising and audience engagement. The Accompanist provides a unifying understanding of the music and preparation of all assigned material through the musical production of *Seussical the Musical* alongside the Music Director and Vocal Director.

*DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:*

* Patience while working with volunteer community members of all ages and skill levels.
* Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
* A strong understanding of  the music for the production, including the  story, setting, drama, and emotional context.
* Strong knowledge of piano skills and accompanying.
* The ability to play an instrument is also ideal.

*PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:*

* Assist in fostering a sense of community and belonging among all members of the production team, cast, crew and orchestra.
* With the Music Director, Director, and Choreographer, play for and attend cast callbacks.
* Come to all rehearsals prepared to play accompaniment
* Collaborate with the Music Director, Director and Choreographer to ensure blocking transitions and cast on stage requirements between musical and dance numbers are clearly planned and executed together.
* Accompany all rehearsals.
* Assist to determining cuts, as needed.
