Company Description Chameleon: A New Musical is an original theatrical production in development, focused on bringing fresh, contemporary storytelling to the stage through music-driven narratives. The creative team is committed to collaborative artistry, innovative musical styles, and character-centered stories. The production aims to blend traditional musical theatre elements with modern influences to engage diverse audiences. Team members are encouraged to contribute ideas, experiment with form, and help shape the show as it moves from development to production.

Role Description The Songwriter will be responsible for composing original music and writing lyrics that support the narrative, themes, and emotional arc of Chameleon: A New Musical. Day-to-day tasks include developing song concepts with the creative team, drafting and revising songs, collaborating with book writers, directors, and music directors, and adapting material based on feedback from workshops and rehearsals. The role also includes preparing demos or basic arrangements, attending creative meetings, and ensuring musical cohesion across the show. This is a full-time hybrid role with work-from-home flexibility, and occasional on-site collaboration on both coasts depending on production process, for rehearsals, readings, and production meetings.

Qualifications

Strong skills in Music Composition and Music, with the ability to write melodically compelling and theatrically effective songs.Demonstrated experience as a Lyricist, crafting clear, character-driven Lyrics that support story and emotion.Working knowledge of Music Production, including creating demos or basic track arrangements to communicate song ideas.Experience writing for musical theatre Ability to collaborate closely with writers, directors, and performers, and to revise work based on feedback.Comfort working in a hybrid environment in New York and California, with availability for in-person rehearsals and meetings.Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines in a development and production schedule.Portfolio or samples of previous songwriting work required; prior professional or workshop credits in theatre are a plus.
