Role Description
The Sound Engineer role at Sofar Sounds is a contract, on-site position based in Greensboro, NC.

The Sound
Engineer will manage audio setup and breakdown for live events, including selecting, positioning, and configuring microphones and audio equipment for performers in diverse, unconventional spaces. This role will involve operating mixing consoles and audio visual (AV) systems, monitoring sound levels, and adjusting acoustics and sound design to ensure clear, balanced audio for each show.
The Sound
Engineer will collaborate with artists, hosts, and Sofar team members to conduct sound checks, troubleshoot technical issues, and maintain a safe, organized event environment. The role requires flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends, aligned with Sofar’s event schedule.
Qualifications

Strong practical skills with microphones and audio engineering tools, including setup, calibration, and live mixing.
Experience with sound design and creating high-quality audio experiences tailored to different performance styles.
Knowledge of audio visual (AV) systems and related equipment used in live event production.
Understanding of acoustics and how to optimize sound in varied and unconventional spaces.
Prior experience in live sound engineering for concerts or events, ideally in small or non-traditional venues.
Ability to lift and transport audio equipment safely and work on-site for extended periods.
Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with artists, venue hosts, and event staff.
Attention to detail, reliability, and problem-solving skills under time-sensitive, live-performance conditions.
Familiarity with health and safety practices related to audio and electrical equipment.
Relevant technical training or certification in audio engineering or a related field is beneficial.
