Job Description

Position Title: Worship & Creative Arts Ministry Tech & Music Director

Reports To: Worship & Creative Arts Pastor & Ultimately the Senior Pastor

Salary/Benefits: Hourly | Retirement | Medical

Principle Function

To support and lead the technical and musical execution of worship services and ministry events at First Baptist Church of Stockton. This position integrates audio, visual, and lighting systems with live worship, including the use of tracks, musicians, and service flow.

The Tech & Music Director assists the Worship & Creative Arts Pastor by helping lead musicians, operate technical systems, and develop volunteer teams while ensuring services are executed with excellence and consistency.

List of (Specific) Responsibilities

1. Operate & Maintain AVL Systems Across Campus

a. Assist in overseeing and maintaining all audio, visual, and lighting systems
b. Ensure systems are functioning properly for services and ministry events
c. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
d. Help maintain consistency and quality across all AVL environments

2. Services & Worship Execution

a. Assist in planning and executing Sunday services and special events
b. Program AVL environments in coordination with worship flow
c. Run tracks using Multitracks, Ableton, or similar platforms
d. Integrate tracks, click, and cues into services
e. Play an instrument during services as needed
f. Help direct musicians during services and rehearsals

3. Music & Technical Integration

a. Work closely with worship leaders and musicians to align technical execution with worship flow
b. Ensure smooth transitions between songs, elements, and service moments
c. Assist in preparing ProPresenter, tracks, and other service elements

4. Systems & Technology Environment

a. Operate and support systems including (but not limited to):

Soundcraft Si Impact consoles
ProPresenter for projection
Canon cameras for video and photo
LiveMix in-ear monitor systems
Dante audio networking
Shure wireless systems
Multitracks and Ableton environments
Work with various cabling and infrastructure including SDI, XLR, and 1/4”
Assist in maintaining environments utilizing both Apple and Windows systems
Utilize Planning Center, Google Suite, and other church management tools

5. Volunteer Leadership

a. Recruit, train, and develop both AVL/tech and music-related volunteers
b. Schedule volunteers for services, rehearsals, and events
c. Foster a culture of excellence, unity, and servant leadership
d. Provide coaching for both technical and music teams

6. Services & Events Support

a. Assist with setup, operation, and teardown for services and ministry events
b. Provide microphones, cabling, and technical support for all ministry needs
c. Support stage and production needs as assigned

7. Ministry & Campus Support

a. Provide technical assistance to church staff and ministries as needed
b. Assist with IT-related support in a limited capacity
c. Support campus-wide events requiring AVL or technical setups

8. Meetings & Team Participation

a. Attend All Staff meetings
b. Attend Worship & Creative Arts Team meetings
c. Attend Work Order and planning meetings as required
d. Participate in additional meetings as needed

9. Additional Responsibilities

a. Create, track, and close work orders assigned to the position
b. Maintain organization of technical storage, cabling, and equipment
c. Assist the Worship & Creative Arts Pastor as needed
d. Perform other duties as assigned

10. Physical Requirements

a. Ability to lift 50 lbs
b. Ability to climb ladders, run cabling, and work in technical environments

Qualifications

Active and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
Ability to play an instrument and lead within a worship environment
Experience with Multitracks, Ableton, or similar platforms (or willingness to learn)
Strong understanding of audio, visual, and lighting systems
Experience in church worship or live production environments preferred
Ability to direct musicians and understand worship flow
Experience recruiting, training, and leading volunteers
Familiarity with systems such as ProPresenter, Planning Center, and digital audio consoles
Basic familiarity with IT systems (Apple/Windows environments, networking basics)
Strong organizational and communication skills
Willingness to work Sunday–Thursday with flexibility for events and special services
Teachable spirit with a servant’s heart

Additional Duties

Assist the Worship & Creative Arts Pastor or designee as needed
Perform other related duties as assigned in support of worship services and ministry events
