Technical Director

The Part-Time Technical Director (TD) is responsible for overseeing the technical operations of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame / Carver Theatre on an event-by-event basis. This includes lighting, sound, stage setup, and general production support for performances, rentals, and special events. Working closely with the Director of Operations, the TD ensures that all technical elements are executed efficiently, safely, and at a high standard. Oversee all technical aspects of performances, events, and facility rentals, including lighting, sound, staging, and basic scenic needs.Operate, supervise, or delegate operation of in-house systems, including but not limited to an ETC Ion Xe lighting console and Yamaha QL5 sound consoleSchedule all technical staff (including contract technicians) for rehearsals, performances, and eventsCollaborate with the Director of Operations and Administrative Assistant to plan and execute technical needs within budget and timeline constraintsServe as the primary technical contact for visiting artists, touring productions, and rental clientsAdvance shows by coordinating technical riders, equipment needs, and event schedulesSupervise load-ins, rehearsals, and performances.Ensure proper setup and breakdown of all technical equipmentMaintain and monitor lighting, audio, stage, and rigging equipmentPerform basic maintenance and coordinate repairs or replacements as requiredMaintain inventory of technical equipment and suppliesEnsure all technical operations follow safety standards and best practicesProvide support for educational programs and community events when neededAttend production meetings as requiredOther duties as assignedJob Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Theatre, Production, or related field or equivalent work experienceExperience in technical production for live events, theatre, or music venuesWorking knowledge of lighting and sound systems (experience with ETC Ion Xe and Yamaha QL5 preferred)Strong organizational, communication, and time management skillsDemonstrates a positive attitude and strong ability to collaborate effectively within a teamAbility to manage multiple events and shifting prioritiesExperience working with artists, clients, and technical teamsBasic knowledge of rigging and stage operationsProficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer skillsWork Schedule:
