'Was Beethoven Black'

Seeking musicians for "Was Beethoven Black," a new interdisciplinary project by Hokum Arts - a work featuring theatre, music, dance, and film about the contributions of Black composers to the classical music canon. Using the lore of Beethoven's ethnic identity as a focal point, the performance will address the musical artists missing from the history books with special attention to female and queer Black composers. Artists will participate in development meetings to devise the script ,music, dance and film components of the piece. There will be a presentation of the work that is free and open to the public on Beethoven's Birthday.
